  • This is a debut feature, though you'd never know it from the filmmaker's commandingly confident style, or from the heartbreaking beauty -- heartbreaking, then heartmending -- of Melissa Leo's performance as a poor single mother who's living her whole life on thin ice. show more

  • There is nothing sentimental or picturesque about the performances or imagery. The word that best describes both is elemental. show more

  • Sometimes two performances come along that are so perfectly matched that no overt signals are needed to show how the characters feel about each other. That's what happens between Melissa Leo and Misty Upham in Frozen River. show more

Loved it so realistic to the struggles of single mom's in remote rural areas. What woman will do for a better life for their children.

loved it! Finally a film that says civil law does not necessarilyapproximate moral law . Two moral women struggle to make their lives and their childrens lives with a degree ofcivil law and moral law meet head on...a superb film..as two women struggle to make their lives and their childrens lives minimally acceptable.. they cross the border of legality but never the limits of morality. Bravo!!!!!!!!!! Loved it.
