Propaganda is a bitch to act. And this misguided movie leaves Hudgens buried in it. show more

    Mick LaSalle San Francisco Chronicle

Gimme Shelter is an attempt at something grand, and though it doesn't get halfway there, it covers some ground. show more

Preachy, manipulative and emotionally barren. show more

A happy-smiley Christian fairy tale disguised as a hard-hitting shard of social realism. show more

From an artistic perspective, Ron Krauss’ heavy-handed drama, Gimme Shelter, fails almost entirely. But if the director set out to combine the stilted falsity of 1980s after-school specials with leaden political dogma, he’s certainly achieved his goals. show more

The story unfolds in large part through awkward contrivance. show more

For all of Krauss’ clearly good intentions, the film still falls staggeringly flat, even with the inclusion of a bold and unexpected performance from Vanessa Hudgens, doing her damndest to break out of the Disney mold and turn in actual work here. show more

Writer-director Krauss embraces the spiritual elements of this story without turning it into a heavy-handed religious lecture. show more

    Rex Reed New York Observer

It’s not for the squeamish, but thanks to a riveting central performance by Vanessa Hudgens and a compassionate screenplay by Ron Krauss, who also directed, this is a far more sobering and substantial exposé of homeless teenage girls on the dangerous edge of society than you might expect. show more

The film never says the words "pro-life" or "pro-choice." It genuinely seems to be about how the system has broken down entirely, and how sometimes it is up to privately funded charities to provide a light at the end of the tunnel. show more

Oh, c'mon. What is wrong with these critics? You wanna trash a movie? How about the piece of garbage that is Escape From Tomorrow? You know, the one that you all seemed to love. All too often these days, critics seem to miss the mark when it comes to rating movies with a real message. Gimme Shelter was a good flick and the main actress, Vanessa Hudgens, was excellent. Very believable performance from her.

I loved this movie and cried like a baby at the end! It had messages of perseverance, love, sacrifice, and salvation. It presented a real picture of what HOPE can be given to those who need it, if the more fortunate among us reach out to others I highly recommend this movie!

The best movie I saw in a very long time. Ignore the critics review as they don\'t like to give merit to independent films. Apples struggles should be an inspiration to all.

AMAZING movie!! I love how the hollywood fools only gave it 2 stars. Probably would have given it 5 if the girl had killed her baby through an abortion.

This movie is incredibly inspirational and moving. It takes a hard look at a subject that is dismissed on a daily basis: homelessness. Vanessa Hudgen\'s performance of pregnant, homeless teen Apple is mind blowing. This is a great film with a wonderful message. See it this weekend!

I love that the critics\' score is a third of the Viewer score on this movie. It just goes to show you that Hollywood is NOT a good reflection of true American values.

Gimme Shelter is a very powerful movie. It is an example of what one person can do. In a world of despair it offers hope. Bring you Kleenex
