Great movie-PERIOD!! One of my favorites of all time and I have seen many.

This film is an amazing account of what happened during Roman reign and power.I enjoyed Phoenix,Harris,and Crowe and loved their performance;Maximus (Crowe) has to watch his family die under the terror of the emperor.He is forced into slavery,or he risks his own life.I thought this was horrific,the cruel and inhumane behavior of the peole in that time.Today,people enjoy Boxing,or football.I felt angry, that in that era,people were harsh;The battles were not a Sport,but in my opinion,murderous deeds.

One of the few movies that I would watch unintentionally if I were browsing on TV. Ebert gave this a bad rating, which in my case, I have lost a great deal of respect for his taste in movies. I read the review by Ebert, and he for all intent purposes was an idiot in the year 2000. 5/5 - see it.
