What was the point of this documentary again? Everyone has vanity issues of some sort, both men and women and hair is just one of them. Whether it hair, botox, cosmetic surgery or tanning salons..a lot of money is being spent on trying to look ones best.

This was a really good movie. It was entertaining, informative and said some really important things in a funny yet subtle way. Some things that were revealed, hopefully will just the eye opener that is needed to make some changes in the way people think about hair and themselves. I only gave it 4 stars because I think there was too much on the hair show (which was utter nonsense) - more real person interviews would have been great. Good job for Chris Rock. This one is a winner.

"when you think about how black people often cry about exploitation" News flash: slavery was, and the contemporary aftermath of it is, by it's very definition, exploitive. no ones "crying" about anything.. Read YOUR OWN US history, because it sounds like you don't know. "THEY are paying thousands to wear the hair of other poor people" (capitals mine) What's with the "THEY" anyway? Newsflash: Um. hate to Wreck your belief system/fantasy, but not all Black people are poor. But you hold onto that. Sounds like you probably need it. "I would like to know where some of THEM get this kind of money" (capitals mine) Newsflash: Hm. let's see. Maybe some of THEM have JOBS. In any case, why are you so concerned where someone else gets THEIR money to do whatever THEY want to do? I don't look at tanning addicts, women with boob jobs, lip injections/butt implants or crystal meth addicts and worry about "where THEY get the money". You'd do better to spend some time trying to educate yourself about what you're ignorant of. And yes, it may just take a lifetime.

Chris Rock rocks! A great documentary. Insightful, humorous, a good lesson on the art and business of black hair. Hopefully the follow-up will include opinions by India.Arie ("I Am Not My Hair") and others who prefer alternatives (e.g. short hair and dreadlocks) as their fashion statement. Also, a history on the social visits of women to a hairdresser's home with her jar of Posner, of hot combs and curling irons heated on the stove, smoking up the kitchen. Next time maybe...?

Chris Rock did a great job with this movie. I was intrigued and entertained, but also kind of shocked at the whole India segment and to see how poor people are really being exploited. Kind of ironic when you think about how black people often cry about exploitation and now they are paying thousands to wear the hair of other poor people, while othgers are getting rich off it and the poor people don't get a dime for it! If the hair was really being given up "for God" (which someone brainwashed them into thinking!) the hair would go to cancer patients (esepciually kids) or for other more noble causes--or at least give some of this money back to help the poor people of India!!! It just seems really wrong... :( But, once agaqin, a very interesting idea for a movie and a subject that was good to be enightended on. I had no idea how much money was being spent on this stuff (I would like to know where some of them get this kind of money though!! I hate to even spend more thqan $30 on a *************** crazy what these women do and what they pay to alter their God-given looks (but I know white women do it too, just in different ways!) It's all pretty insane... We are all SO vain!

Very entertaining in a real way. Insightful for those who are not black, intriguing hairstyles, informative re: the industry stats pertaining to the true profiteers in the black hair industry and sadly reveals the lack of safety standards for the chemicals used in the industry. Foreign footage was very eye opening. As with white women and plastic surgery, Good Hair underscores what people are willing to do to obtain their perception of beauty from a black culture perspective. Very well put together. All races, religions etc. should watch and learn. Nothing wrong with being the best you can be. Needless to say,I really liked it.
