Goodbye Solo -- which comes out on Lionsgate DVD on August 25 -- may seem like a fairly simple, lightweight indie movie, one of those quirky movies about a mismatched friendship. Hollywood loves movies about uptight misfits who need to be opened up and...

The acting was good. The plot more than poor - this film is an expanded art movie with pretensions of intellectual superlatives â which failed miserably. At the heart of this movie is a kernel of ... desire by the author/producer/director to elevate other cultures and races and to diminish and depress western culture as pathetic and depressed. I beg to differ. From Aristotle and Plato, Cicero and Marcus Aurelius, St. Augustine, Abelard, Galileo, Keppler, More and Erasmus, from Petrarch and Michelangelo, DaVinci, Bacon, Newton, Voltaire, Shakespeare, John Locke, Rousseau, Kant, Montaigne, DesCarte, Hugo, Dreiser, Hemingway, Marquez, Einstein, GW Carver, and a host of others (of all races and cultures who embraced western culture) that has made western civilization the shining light on the mountain â the plot of Goodby Solo is but a slug that worms its way through the slime of envy in order to diminish, not to expand and merge the brilliance of culture. Frankly, I sense at heart this is a movie about hate â about a minority of people who hate American culture. Itâs a good think that Oprah bankrolled this movie, which only captured only an audience that despises western culture. Itâs time that America and western culture stop apologizing for its greatness, and move on in Full Review
I thought the acting was good and kept wanting to like this film but, in the end it just put me to sleep. I was very disappointed in this film and would not recommend.
We saw it today and thought it very well done. When acting is so felt and not acting it becomes believable. An uneasy flow between drama and dark delicate humor. I recommend it.
Sometimes I read the Critic Reviews and think I am in another world. I thought the acting was just poor. This film is not going anywhere
