The 2010 World Cup -- the biggest non-Olympic sporting event on the planet -- has begun. So while you're prepping the grill for Saturday's big match between the United States and England (coverage begins 1:30PM ET on ABC), we thought we'd get the ball...
Odds and ends from a fairly slow Monday: What's better than a film inspired by the true events in the life of Elisabeth and Andrew Shue? How about hearing that Dermot Mulroney has just signed on to play a part? Is that not a fantastic way to start the...

Carly Schroeder is the winner here; the film can't possibly work unless she's believable in the part. Undoubtedly, the film makers wanted an actress who was visually appealin... g, but the more difficult feat was finding an actress who looked both physical and athletic. That's a tough, three legged parlay, but Schroeder looks and acts the part. I also toast the filmmakers since they were reliving the tragic loss of someone they loved. It would have been an easy slip to over-sentimentalize, and, not surprisingly, the film does walk a tightrope at times in that respect. But they never go overboard. The father/daughter relationship here is what holds the movie together, even more than the obvious "destination" of success for Gracie. It's the kind of relationship that makes families such a dangerous but necessary structure. An enjoyable film. Full Review
I thought it was just going to be one of those stupid sport films, but it ended up being very entertaining and witty.I absolutly loved this movie. Its one of my favorite movies I've rented this year an... d yes I'm going to buy it! Full Review
I am always looking for the kind of film that matter-of-factly informs girls that, through desire and plain hard work, you can achieve your goals. That is a common, obvious message, but ask yourself h... ow many movies are delivering that message to girls without also referring, whether overtly or by implication, to appearance and sexuality. The universe of those films is tiny. Well, finally, here is one!! Unfortunately, this movie was marketed poorly and did not do well at the box office. That does not mean, however, that it should die on the vine as a dvd. If you think a simple positive message of grit and determination for girls is worthy of wide distribution, then its going to take word of mouth to do it, because clearly the studios don't care. Spread the word about Gracie!! Full Review
I liked the movie. The acting was wonderful. However the "car scene at the beach" could have been left out. As a parent of a nine year old girl ( who loves to play soccer)it was inappropriate.
