  • It's thrilling, a soaring blend of 3D animation and spectacular storytelling that swerves daringly to honor the healing chaos of family, human and dragon. show more

  • Gleeful and smart, funny and serious, this sequel surpasses the endearing original with gorgeous animation — a dragon Eden, a dragon scourge, an infinitude of dragons — and one stirring human encounter after another. show more

  • One of this year's true surprises, the superior animated sequel not only is infused with the same independent spirit and off-kilter aesthetic that enriched the original, it also deepens the first film's major themes. show more

Visually stunning, but a dark and troubling story line that does not provide a happy ending. The array of dragons is mind blowing, however, their evil manipulation by the script and "Toothless" forced betrayal becomes not only confusing for little tikes, but unnecessary to create the good v. evil dichotomy. From the story standpoint, Dragon 2 pales in comparison to the first high flying fun filled introduction to Hiccup's bonding with Toothless.
