My comment is on those reviews that are unquestioningly praising this movie and ordering everyone to go see it. It is quite obvious from the overall reviews that this film, despite Will Smith and the dog, is a real loser. Yet, interspersed among the reviews quite critical od this movie are a few scattered reviews claiming this incomplete and depressing film is: 'a must see', 'best movie ever', 'YOU MUST SEE THIS MOVIE', "It kept me on the edge of my seat. It was awesome... don't listen to the "bad" reviews, this movie is a good one... go see it in theater!!!" I've seen these same type reviews on other really boring movies. You know these people have to be associated with the movie industry and are directed to perform this PR for the movie studios. My favorite was the guy who praised this movie to high heaven and used the handle/name 'Only Six Bucks.' LOLOf course some liked the movie and said so, but they were the ones not worshipful of the movie.

One of the worst movies I have ever seen....butchered the book it was based upon, there were so many plot-holes that it looked like a bunch of sketches put together, plus it just seemed like huge gaps were left out, the ending was laughable, how could u make a "R" rated book into a sell-out PG-13 movie...only decent part of the movie was Will Smith's acting and the interaction with the dog...overall, one of the most dissappointing movies I have seen.

One of my favorite movies! I thought Smith did and awesome job and everyone I know who went to go see it, LOVED it! I would highly recommend it in theaters or on DVD...I will buy it as soon as it comes out.

It's a well done remake of "The Omega Man" a 1970's Charlton Heston movie. With today's computer animation I expected a much better movie. All in all it was entertaining, my kids enjoyed it.

Having read the book, it was completely altered and tweaked into a modernized plot. Since the book was written in 1954 the complete element of "the legend" about vampires was clearly visible in the novel, from their weaknesses of garlic, the cross, and to be stabbed through the heart with a stake. However, Matheson gave it a scientific explanation making it not just another zombie movie, although he may be one of the first to invent with the idea of human race being wiped off with some infectious disease. Going back to the movie, it's nothing like the book, like i said, it was modernized to fit with the audiences expectations. The director and the writers meant to change it, and i can't complain about it. Smith did a great job. The only thing i don't like is the ending, they could have provided further explanation on what happened next.

In my life I have walked out of three movies, and this was one of them. I love Will Smith and thought despite medicore reviews that the movie would be a good one. It seemed ( at least as long as I stayed ) that it was a poor remake of the Omega Man. Save your money for a better movie, I wouldn't even watch this on television.

If you have read "I am Legend", you'll know that the focus of the story is the loneliness that Robert Neville must struggle with as the last man on earth, and Smith does a wonderful job portraying that loneliness. Unfortunately, that is the film's only redeeming quality. The special effects are atrocious, they are along the lines of a bad Sci-fi Channel movie. I was hoping for something like George A. Romero's "Dawn of the Dead" 2004 remake, in terms of the "infected". For the most part I did not mind the changes to the plot (I felt some of them added to the story rather nicely), but I was disgusted with the ending. I'm sure the producers worried the story would be "too depressing" for most viewers without the changed ending, but I felt it majorly detracted from the entire movie... even the special effect pale in comparision to how the ending ruined the movie for me.I'd give this movie a 5 out of 10, for Smith's portrayal of Robert Neville, and the nicely done back drops of New York City. (without the two I wouldn't even rate it as 1)I would say wait until this comes out to rent. Seeing the opening shots of New York city on a big screen is nice, but it's not worth the price.
