Roman Catholic Paul Lanigan (Art Carney) is the police chief of a small town. Whenever something sinister is afoot -- and in this sleepy-looking town that is often the case -- Lanigan turns to his friend Rabbi David Small (Bruce Solomon), for assistance in his investigations. This time around, Lanigan and Rabbi Small find themselves contending with a climbing crime rate, the murder of a well-known psychiatrist and the interference of one of the mayor's political rivals in the case.
