One must keep in mind that this film is a "spoof," albeit one on a terrible time in history. With that in mind Christop Waltz for his portrayal of a typical sadistic, mindless bastard of an SS officer, should certainly be up for an Oscar for best supporting actor. Better than Pitt in this film.

I can understand why folks either love this movie or hate it. Perhaps that is because some people do not enjoy subtitles, lots of dialogue, tweaking history, and Tarento's unique style of direction. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie as it is very entertaining and I do enjoy Tarentino's direction. I am old enough to appreciate the "70's" flair, the music choices, the wry humor, the "Once Upon a Time in the West" effects taken to new heights set in occupied France WW2, Godfather like scenes, and characters that weave their presence in and out of the intrigue not unlike The Dirty Dozen. The acting was perfection as was the suspense....felt my heart racing several times....and the scenes in Shoshona's theater at the Nazi gala were SUPERB!!!! or those having difficulty with believabability....this is a story, not true history...meant to entertain all of your senses and emotions....from the woman in the red dress/film noir sensual nuances to the scalpings, cuttings, and final marking.

This movie strains everyone's sense of belief. Leaving aside the Holocaust and Nazi atrocities, this, from a WW2 veteran, is just a piece of American WW2 propoganda. Brad Pitt's bragidocio strains belief. His hands being untied by the German colonel, his joking remarks and behavior when faced with imminent death, the fantastic scenario of the colonel bringing him to the enemies doorstep is a concoction only a hollywood writer would dream up.

Overrated and boring as hell. Of course, going in to a Quentin Tarantino film, you think I'd be braced for long, drawn-out scenes and mostly dialogue. But in previous films like "Pulp Fiction" and "Death Proof", Tarantino was able to pull it off with more panache. Every heavily subtitled scene in "Inglourious Basterds" drags on forever, with very little of interest either said or done. It might have something to do with unknowns like Daniel Bruhl, Christoph Waltz, and Melanie Laurant dominating screen time, while Brad Pitt and Diane Kruger are pushed into the background. Either way, this over-two-and-a-half hour film was longer and more boring than any movie about a plot to assassinate Hitler has a right to be.

We all have different tastes and that is fine, but please don't judge a movie before you have seen it. And honestly I wouldn't mind if everyone hated IB, as long as I enjoyed it. But seriously, go see it and if you don't like it fine, if you do then congrats!

IF YOU DON"T LIKE TARANTINO....stay home. "Pulp Fiction" remains a movie favorite of mine..."Basterds" is a runner up, as far as Tarantino movies go. Crazy, Bizaaro-World, WW II...script...Aside from the "scalping" scene and the "swaztika carving ", gorey violence is minimal...but plenty of gun-fire...fine acting by many...a good time at the movies.

I can live with the rewriting of history, but in a movie where you feel there just might be a happy ending, there was just an ending. There was no reason for Col. Landa to all of a sudden change at the end. He was a brutal patriot in the beginning, middle, and towards the end, but then he flipped the script. Shoshannah should have gotten her revenge and lived. The "Basterds" were a minor part of the story. The dialogue was excellent. The plot was so-so. What was the purpose of the bar scene? Why would they meet in public? What was the plan once they infiltrated the theater? What was the purpose of killing off Shoshannah? I think a better ending would have been: that she witnessed Landa's removal of Raines from the theater and followed them to the forest. She then would spoil his expected freedom with a bullet. I know this is a war movie and a happy ending rarely happens in war movies. In this case there should have been. So, for this reason I would only give it 3 stars.

2 hours and 3 minutes I will never get ************* hoping the movie would redeem itself.. but should have got up and left. Just hung on too long to each segment. Terribly messy and rewrote history pitifully.. Jumped years and how on earth did the group establish themselves..???? Would not recommend.

It is indeed a shame when what is meant to be an aide to theatre goers is turned into a childish, profane farce...
