Benidorm- DITTO! Plus, Hal Holbrook gave the only meaningful perspective in the movie. And, if you want to live off the land, you practice first at a local state campground, not Alaska. He got what he deserved because he was spoiled, naive, and self-centered. This might have been a block-buster in the 60's, but today, Christopher McCandless would have been diagnosed with depression and be pounding down Zoloft.

I did not know anything about the movie before I went. I really liked it and especially all of the wonderful people he met along his journey of life.

What happened? After reading so many positive reviews I was expecting something special. Not so. We ate on a Sunday evening and only the buffet was available. The only BB available was pulled chicken and some single ribs. Neither was anything I would order again. The fried chicken was third rate and the only thing I saw were backs; no wings, no breasts. The huspuppies were, hands down, the worst I ever tasted. They were so bad I wanted desperatly to spit it out, and that was just one small bite. Both the chicken and the hushpuppy were laden with foul tasting grease. My advice; go somewhere else for better food and a better bargain.

It's a gripping tale of a young man who sees the world with different eyes and wishes to live outside society. He almost proved it to himself, that it could be done. Absolutely beautiful scenery thru-out! In the end, leaving you with an absolute feeling of loss! Definitely worth your time to go see!!!!!!!!

I hadn't heard much about this movie, but it looked interesting from the synopsis. What I found was simply amazing. At first I was afraid it would be like Castaway where we just watched some guy trying to survive alone, but the movie is broken up very well with his day-to-day ventures in Alaska mixed with his travels and experiences with new people on his trek to this final destination. I felt the 2.5-hour length was very appropriate to convey the story and message, and I would've sat through another hour of it, if need-be. If you have any appreciation for life, travel, new experiences, and nature, then you will love this film. I have camped in the Yukon Territory and Alaska, where the film takes place, and maybe that gave me more of an appreciation, but I'm still born and raised in Los Angeles and would consider myself a city boy. The movie definitely makes you think about life and how each of us spends it, and I would guess many of those who thought it was too long are probably those who don't like to have to think during a movie. Anyways, I guarantee this film will have oscar nominations across the board.

Everyone reaches out to help McCandless but he rejects them all. He is not a endearing young man. The running time of the movie could have been cut in half with no ill effects and the repetitive flashbacks are irritating.

It was terrific to view this film in South Dakota with Wayne Westerberg and his friends from Carthage... real life John Deere cap wearers whose headgear blocked my view of the film!!The film was a feature piece of the Inaugural South Dakota film festival... an ambitious undertaking that scored a 10 on its first run!!The film seemed a bit long.. but.. it was shown after a two hour session of other terrific films...and.. perhaps would not seem so long if it was the one and only attraction. The camera work was outstanding... almost too realistic at times (the forced removal from the train.. the maggots in the meat in Alaska).... Was Chris a spoiled brat who misjudged the force of Mother Nature.... or a modern day Thoreau?...Hard to decide.

The best book I ever read. I hope the movie lives up to my expectations. I am most positive that I met that parent of this young man at the "Rod and Reel" in Chesapeke Beach, Maryland!
