Invention of Lying User Reviews

I had no idea what this movie was about and I was shocked by what I saw, such honesty is rare in movies. Yes, religion has lied to all of us for so long most people don't even realize what has happened. If you don't see the truth in the message of this movie then you simply do not want to see it. If believing in fairy tales makes you happy that is fine but don't be so arrogant that you push your fantasy onto others. I choose to believe in reality.

Once again, the user reviews betray the fact that they just don't get it. Either that, or they're just too "religious" to appreciate the social commentary. Anyone who finds this movie "offensive" is certainly not worthy of any religious doctrine to which they may subscribe. This movie was certainly not a blockbuster ... not by any means ... but they way it plays out is priceless. Having seen it once, I most likely will not see it again, but I highly recommend seeing it nonetheless.

This movie was a huge let down and I too would love my money back on this one. Don't even bother when it comes out on DVD...not worth the money. Sad way to spend my birthday...

I really liked Ricky Gervas in Ghost Town, so I thought this might be a good film to see. I was very dissappointed. This is one of the worst films I ever seen. Because I liked Ghost Town so much, i stayed to the end. It never got better. Its' crime, It is suppose to be a comedy, but it was not funny. After the first 15 minutes, the single joke became boring and continued till the end. Making matters worse, they confused pure stupidity with Truth. So the people who told only told truth were always very vulger and the LIAR was equally vulger in his lies. Once again the critics let us down. They apparently only see the world through jaded glasses. A view which we moviegoers do not share. I feel very sorry for Jennifer Garner who had the misfortune to be in the cast. Somebody lied to her big time.

My cousin and I went to see this movie yesterday. My comments: Rather than being funny/humorous the movie was downright SILLY. The punch lines were not good. My question is, "what was the point of making this moviie.: What did it REALLY have to say? Although there were a few top notch actors in it, I didn't feel that it was very well scripted. My general consensus from the movie is only that, we all should be taken for our contenf of character rather than how we appear on the outside. That's about it. Thanks.

I would watch this movie, ************ it's not going to be shown at any of my local theatres. Pretty ridiculous when it has only been out for 2 1/2 weeks. The movie industry going out of business or something? What's the point of making a movie and not showing it long enough for people to go out to see it? I think they (whoever they maybe) need to slow there role and take the time to make a good movie because it seems to me like they're rushing things. It seems like out of every 10 movies I go see only 1 of them ends up being worth it. also, looking at the other comments I kind of don't want to see it now. The trailers have been misleading for A LOT of movies. Funny light-hearted movies are being objective. I have no religion (you can say atheist) and even I wouldn't go to see this movie if it had such an objective nature to it.

DO ********* THIS MOVIE! Advertised as a comedy, but was really an atheist forum....the premise is that to believe in God you have to be stupid and gullible. Very disappointed that many people like myself will walk in thinking it to be a lighthearted comedy, and will have to hear this.

At first, I thought the movie was going to be about how although the truth does hurt at times, there is nothing wrong with a little lie if it makes someone feel good. That is an understandable idea. I like Ricky Gervais, I like Jennifer Garner, I didn't like this movie. I felt the underlying message of "God is just a made up lie in the sky" very offensive. The character played by Ricky Gervais coming to the front of his building with two Pizza Hut boxes a pretentious set of the tablets of Moses unnecessary. And when his character resembles Jesus, understandable but not funny. The only part I really thought said a lot was of how hungry people are to believe. Home much they want to believe. I did like the fact that it also spoke about how people should be viewed from the inside and how shallow society can be. It's not what I thought it was going to be. I hope Ricky does better next time because for the most part I think he's very talented.

I liked it. Fresh idea, funny delivery. Good acting. Nice to just go out and laugh and not have to see people get killed. I also learned something. How refreshing it is to allow others to say what they will, but not have to take it in or react to it. GREAT!
