Joe Maddison's War

Kevin Whately of English television's Inspector Morse toplines this British drama, set during World War II; he stars as Joe Maddison, a World War I veteran turned shipyard worker suffering from deep depression and midlife ennui. Turned down for service in the regular British army, Maddison's mood sinks even lower when his wife leaves him for a sailor. In response, he and friend Harry (Robson Green) volunteer for a local brigade called the Home Guard, headed by Mr. Simpson (Derek Jacobi), a local pharmacist. This takes Maddison on a life-changing journey of self-discovery. Melanie Hill, John Woodvine and James Atherton co-star.
