Plot & Details
In this made-for-television adaptation of the short story by Ralph Ellison, Sonny (Colman Domingo) is an African-American man from the Deep South who has moved to Harlem in the early '40s in hopes of building a better life for himself, his wife, and their unborn child. However, Sonny has had no luck in finding work; desperate, he happens into a movie theater on Bingo night, and to his surprise he wins a card and is called to the stage to spin the prize wheel. For a brief moment, Sonny feels as if fate has finally been put in his hands, but tragically, he's unable to let it go when the powers that be deem it necessary. King of the Bingo Game was produced for the PBS anthology series American Storytellers.
