  • Leonie is a rich tapestry of cross-cultural revelations, released to the public at last, and a welcome addition to an otherwise dreary movie season. show more

  • No matter how great her ambitions, no matter how little she was able to accomplish, thanks to the strictures of her time, here was a woman history remembers simply through the force of her personality and the simple courage it took to be ahead of her time. show more

  • It’s a juicy story squandered by the poor telling. It’s got all the trappings of a good ol’-fashioned Merchant Ivory pic — lush locales, exotic period trappings — but none of the soul. show more

When I looked at moviefone for info on this movie, it was very confusing!! it gave an explanation of a Japanese film directed by a Japanese director....also with the title Leonie. I knew that seemed strange as this one is a MADE IN MICHIGAN CATHOLIC MOVIE based on a true story of the life of Leonie Martin and her four sisters, one of them being St Therese...This was the \"red carpet premiere\" at the Emagine theater in Novi, MI., and is not showing at any other theater. It is a beautiful movie played out by amateur actors but very well done. The photography and the directing were great, and the out-takes at the end were very funny. It was very highly attended. With all the terrible summer movies that are out this year, this was most refreshing; I can only hope more of this type will come. God bless the cast and all the people that put this gem together.
