Little Big Man

PG-13| 2 hr. 19 min.

Plot Summary
When a curious oral historian (William Hickey) turns up to hear the life story of 121-year-old Jack Crabb (Dustin Hoffman), he can scarcely believe his ears. Crabb tells of having been rescued and raised by the Cheyenne, of working as a snake-oil salesman, as a gunslinger, and as a mule skinner under Gen. Custer (Richard Mulligan). As if those weren't astonishing enough, he also claims to be the only white survivor of the infamous Battle of the Little Bighorn.

  • Hoffman is uncharacteristically charming in a demanding role; the supporting cast is uniformly excellent, particularly Chief Dan George as a befuddled patriarch who takes the supernatural as a matter of course. show more

  • Arthur Penn's Little Big Man is an endlessly entertaining attempt to spin an epic in the form of a yarn. show more

  • Episodic western with a great performance from Hoffman. show more

Outstanding film classic. Faye Dunaway gives a great performance - clearly her best. Dustin Hoffman is always good and doesn't disappoint here. Chief Dan George gives a fine performance also. Movie entertainment ****** best.
