Whenever the movie's point of view turns omniscient, and we're seeing events from the director's vantage point, Man on Fire becomes a blurry, shaky mess. show more

Not too many R-rated revenge pics depend on "Uptown Girls'" Dakota Fanning for the stronger scenes. Yet once the 10-year-old star exits the picture, Man on Fire starts blowing a lot of smoke. show more

The movie's leisurely, elegant setup makes its action payoff seem, by contrast, particularly mechanical, cynical and grotesque. show more

Saw it when it first came out and watch it whenever it plays. Once in a great while, everything comes together to make a great movie. Man on Fire is one !! Great story, correct actors, and a perfect music score. As usual, Denzel is right on the mark. This movie is perfect !!!

Its about 30 mins too long, has some improbably plot twists, scenarios, and a body count thats hard to keep score but.... Man On Fire is a underated classic.Denzel and Dakota are perfectly cast with and an excellent cameo from Christopher Walken Based on a true story of a child abduction in Italy and origainlly made with Scott Glenn in 1987 ,Tony Scotts mindblowing remake is a gritty,no punches pulled ,shoot em up bloodfest,More than one ear gets cut off,as do a few fingers as Denzel stops at nothing to revenge the kindnapping and supposed kiling of the young girl he was meant protect. No spoiler aleart but the ending still brings a tear to my eye.Although some found the directive hand held style of the film annoying I thought it was both beautifully shot and edited. The musical score, apart from Denzels like for a Linda Rhondstat song ,is again masterful. I have to say I am a Tony Scott fan and this is truly his masterwork.Missed it on the big screen, which I still regret to this day, but have seen it over 20 times!!
