Plot Summary
In 1948, Nelson Mandela (Danny Glover) joins the African National Congress, working to overturn South Africa's apartheid policies. His political activism brings him into contact with a young social worker named Winnie (Alfre Woodard), whom he eventually marries. Initially committed to nonviolence, Mandela turns militant after the police massacre scores of peaceful protesters in 1960.
