Someone said the Hollywood left kept it out of the mainstream theatre release. Seems the same thin happens to some of the Sherwood films like "Fireproof". I would not be a bit surprised. Perhaps if the thing happened in LA it might have gotten a bit more push. The hollywood types have a thing about "not invented here".

Why isn't the movie being shown in Fort Worth? I've been waiting for it for WEEKS! The book was wonderful and I want to see this movie. WAKE UP movie houses! This is a story that needs to be told. I lived in Houston when the story unfolded and Plano has it but Fort Worth doesn't?????? Whassup with that?

Variety
The story lights up when world-class performer Chi Cao leaps about as the adult Li, but is marred by lumpy melodrama when the music stops. Full Review
Amy Biancolli
San Francisco Chronicle
This is a handsome, conventional biopic, as fluent and polished as its subject matter. Full Review

Time Out New York
The performance sequences feel intimate and exhilarating-but in the end, Li's journey is compelling only when he's onstage. Full Review
Joe Morgenstern
Wall Street Journal
The film celebrates artistic freedom without preaching a sermon, and often flies when Mr. Chi is on screen. When he is on stage, spinning and leaping to the strains of magnificent music, the film soars. Full Review
Joe Neumaier
New York Daily News
Noble but dull. Full Review
