This movie was phenomenal! Best movie that I have seen in years. Sean Penn will win the oscar for this hands down. Brilliant!

This movie is getting a lot of notice and Penn is wonderful. However, the movie is basically boring. It's a docu-drama and goes year by year about how he tries to get elected and then what happens to him. Penn may get another Oscar but I sure don't think this will win best picture. My suggestion would be to wait and see it as a rental.

This film tells such a beautiful story and one that I feel more people need to know about. I left feeling informed and empowered. Great job by all, esp Sean Penn and Josh Brolin...

IF THE PURPOSE OF ART...(AND A "FILM" IS FAR MORE "ART" TO ME THAN A MOVIE) IS TO HELP US REACH INSIDE THE ESSENCES OF EXPRESSIONS BY OTHERS AND FEEL THEIR SOULS FOR GREATER UNDERSTANDING...then "MILK" does that with Sean Penn crossing all boundaries and dipping into all valleys and climbing all hills--my gosh, he was Harvey personafied--Bravo Sean!-- because I learned who I am when it comes to being an American with a sense of freedom and civil rights for all. Not that MILK is my only introduction or investigation into my truest feelings regarding homosexuality and hetereosexualism and tri-bi-uno-sexualism, (in America we can try them all on for size). I have done a great deal of research to try and understand but I must admit I reached my limit often. So, viewing MILK was certainly far more than a movie just like Penn's perfomance was far more than just acting and I think he meant for it to be that way. I did learn myself. I have problems with homo-sociopolitics and as a hetero-mom I certainly do feel "attacked" in some way. (Haven't quite figured that out yet but I can tell you this line and scene truly stimulated disgust in me and caused my socio-politics to move far more to the right than I would normally want or expect): Mayor Moscone, "But two guys can't produce a family, a child." Milk (Sean), "Yes, but that don't stop us from trying." (Paraphrased.) I don't believe MILK has fostered the cause of homosexual "marriage" in a positive way. I know I applaud the gay community for their long-term, stable relationships--that's wonderful--but that is not all to it and stability is not what all gays live; so in earnest, I must admit there are hetero-derelects and other-derelects, always, so there are gay-derelects too and these people are repulsive to people like me who are "sitting hens" in a "nest" with "chicks" and a "rooster." So, what is it that bothers me most, I asked myself? I have come to learn that not only is it gay-male-sociopolitics that bothers me tremendously but some child-free-individuals seem to feel that same way to me, negatively. Therefore, I assume my strongest feelings on this issue in our society rest with my sense of it as: GOOD PARENTS MAKE BIG SACRIFICES LIKE NO OTHER. Gay-male-sex is fun, passionate and pleasurable and I feel "irresponsible" in nature while hetero-sex (cross-pollination, and that includes gay-females) will produce children (AND a future). Hetero-sex (even that done by gays), is less than 5 mins. of sex, will create a lifetime of devotion to others and to a society and nation at-large.. And THAT, is not (overall) fun, pleasurable and irresponsible. THAT is devoted responsibility for a full lifetime. This seems to be my CORE feelings...and my deepest essence of expression on this subject and issue. --Margaret. Opine

We saw this today and thought it was an outstanding job by everyone. If Sean Penn doesn't get the Oscar for this performance, something is terribly wrong!!

I know the movie was rated R but I thought that it had a good social equality message so I took my teenage daughter to see it. That was a mistake. I was shocked that they included so many scenes of homoerotica. It would have been fine to hint at such things without just throwing it in our faces. I think we all know Milk was gay, and we can conclude that he had gay relationships, but not all movies about straight people have to include graphic sex-scenes, and I don't think Milk should've stooped to that level, either. I appreciated the fact that the filmmaker didn't make the ending too dramatic, because they could've gone off the deep end and they didn't.

Phenominal movie with strong characters. This story was waiting to be told and it was worth the wait.

This movie was not worth $10 to see. It was more like a documentary that you could see for free on the History Channel. I am so sick of Hollywood making these boring crap bio-pics--although I will admit this film was better than "Walk the Line" and "Ray."
