What a TERRIBLE movie from top to bottom. If this was suppose to be a tribute to black WWII veterans then Spike Lee has failed them, himself, his race, and their legacy. I expected the "white people are evil" angle and no doubt back then generally they were.....but even if you throw out the race component this movie still stinks to high heaven. The main characters are supposedly "surrounded" by Nazi's yet there they are cruising around, partying, and getting laid. The combat scenes were total amateur hour and looked like they were shot in the 1960s. FOUR artillery shells hit a wooden barn and it doesnt blow up. The Nazi's come to town and take all the food leaving the villagers wondering what they will eat......then 30 mins later they are having a feast while 3 soldiers party and only one stands guard at the door to the church.....yeah, they really feared for their lives! Like a black man in 1944 Italy didnt stand out like a sore thumb.....not in this movie...they blended right in! lol Boy, really gripping cinematic realism there. I guess that was the typical combat stress for the black WWII veteran! Are you kidding me? What a travesty to their service and sacrifice! The movie made a mockery of real combat and made you think that white US Army officers posed more of a threat to black soldiers than the Nazi's did which is, of course, ridiculous. The bottom line is that Spike Lee sucks. He took a great story and butchered it in order to show the world how black he is.....like we all need to be lectured by him......Again! He could have and should have made the Italian partisians, the boy, and the villagers that got massacred the central victims...and the hunt for the traitor among them the drama.....with the black troops thrust into the middle of it with a mission to complete and a mystery to unravel while ALSO telling the black experience around it. But that would require Spike to jettison his "black victimization" mantra and we all know thats not going to happen because god forbid somebody suffer more than black people in his eyes. And thats just it...by playing the race card ad nauseum he stripped the movie and the characters of their realism......hence he didnt connect with anybody who isnt suffering from black rage or a severe case of white guilt. I guess its safe to say.....I have neither! What a waste....I really wanted this movie to be good.

Yes, blacks were treated poorly during WWII. We got it, Spike. I loved Tuskeegee Airmen. turned me around. Saw your movie, same point, we got it. Things are better now, are they not? Obama, Mixed marriages, Afrfirm Action???? Are we not getting there?? Brilliantly dedpited, wonderfully acted, The Jews got a raw deal in WWII also, ok, absorbed - now what? Where do we go from here. LET'S GET OUT OF THE PROBLEM AND INTO THE SOLUTION, SPIKE....Spike, I saw your TV interview at the Metro State college in Denver where you admitted that you are a racist...are you all better now? If we move on, we do we go from here? As a black mihnister once told me, " I don't know how to cure our problems, but HATE isn't gonna do it."

Just saw this movie and yes I am white even though I only beleive in one race: The Human Race. This was an awesome film and should command as many Oscars as they can give it. This film should be seen by everyone it is a great film! I was touched deeply by the story and they way all races were depicted good and bad. Because in life there are always good and evil! GREAT JOB MR. LEE I COMMNED YOU!!!!!

Spike Lee you hit the nail on the Head! You serve an OSCAR! Don't beleive the crtics. How often are they just plain wrong. Go see it for your self. Its a great story about our contribiution in history. It"s not a "I hate White People" it's a story from our perspective which Americans typically don not get to see!!! Check it out!

I wanted to see a comedy, my husband wanted to see an action movie so we went to see this one and wow,,,Outstading movie, amamazing acting and believable story line. Don't pay attettion to the critics! Go see this movie. Give a chance to this one.. I wish they would be promoting it more cause it is really one of the best movies I've seen in a long time,,, Seems so real, the characters, scenery, plot,the great and surprising ending, everything is very good ...Not for children as it is about the war and a few scenes can be hard to watch...But I assure you this is an award kind of movie...I even couldn't help myself cry at the end...and I NEVER cry at the movies...

This movies has flaws, but it's a wonderful movie nonetheless. It carries an uplifting message that transcends races and nationalities and is relevant now more than ever. Only bigots won't get it.

This film is a must see!!!! The movie actually tells you the real story about the Buffalo Soldier during that time which history books have negelect to tell the student. This movie tells both side of the story of what really went on during the war. The only way you would have knowledge of this is if you took the time and read about this event. Spike Lee has done an excellent job on this movie, another masterpiece has been added with Malcolm X. Anyone who gave this movie a bad rating had to be white and it is hard for them to swallow the truth that African Americans has done alot more than they will give us credit for. Wake up people and accept the truth we have done alot of great things in this world and for America and you all need to accept it.America suppose to be the land of the free, "yeah right" I've seen better in other countries where I have been station in the military.

I saw this movie tonight all byself and I shall say that the movie has it's confusing parts but overall great story told by spike lee. If you want to see the truth of both sides of the war go see it...This movie will get an oscar for being blunt and truthful.
