This was a compelling and interesting story. The movie runs close to three hours but I felt the time flew by. Its rated R and there is some nudity, so leave the kids at home, this is not for them. The movie does touch on racism which you'd expect in a Spike Lee movie, but I felt it was a necessary part of the story and not all that heavy handed. The actors were good, as were the characterizations. You could relate to these men. . The movie brought home the horror of war as experienced by both soldier and civilian. I am white, but I was totally engrossed by the movie and I recommend it. To all our American soldiers and veterans, of any race, thank you for your service to our country.

This is an amazing movie! I think the critics are too busy focusing on the fact that it's a Spike Lee movie and not on the story itself. Like Malcolm X, this movie was incredible, the actors were amazing, and it was beautifully shot! Spike I'm proud of you and look forward to your next film. Again you do a film that touches our spirit and bring us stories that Hollywood never makes. Hollywood can get the middle finger! I'm tired of watching the movies that depict negative African American images & stereotypes. I've seen those sorry a$$ critics give thumbs up to some of the worst movies ever made! Kick Rocks Hollywood! Spike Lee is the truth! God Bless & keep the movies coming! You'll never be understood as long as minds stay closed.

Spike Lee is telling the truth and we are coming to the point where the truth needs to be told. The subliminal messages in the movie was wonderful. Great Cinema.

Someone has to tell the story of the African American presence in America's wars, and Spike Lee does a superb job of conveying this experience as a WWII story of race relations, courage, compassion, sacrifice and human fraility.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I was inspired as an American and African American. If I hadn't been educated prior to the movie, I might have not taken seriously the hardships faced by the soldiers. However, what immediately came to my mind was Mr. Ed Taylor, a veteran of WWII that lived in my neighborhood when I was a boy. For an assignment what I think was the 8th grade, my mother suggested I interview him. He told me himself about his days in Italy, and how white women asked to see his "tail", and the treatment of Black soldiers. I also learned that Mr. Taylor was also a member of the Red Ball Express. Despite movies that depicted the officers as white, it was made up of Black soldiers. Now there's a contradiction played out in the movies. If it hadn't been for Mr. Taylor, I may not have ever known. Thanks Spike for exposing the truth and continuing to educate through facts. Facts that remain, despite how much some of our society wants to hide from them. The TRUTH sets all of us free. The truth is that despite the efforts of both white and blacks in the civil rights movement, RACISM still exists...in movies, in federal buildings and institutions, in sports, in housing, etc. I as an African-American want it to be over also, but through truth.

This movie had the makings of a classic war story based on comradery between military brotheren and destiny. Unfortunately, in the middle of this compelling story of the plight of our black military heroes and the rescueing of a young boy and how he rescues them back, Mr. Spike Lee manages to fill stereotypical tidbits of hatred against America, American military, and all white people in general... going as far as to portray the lead italian female white as a ***** and a Nazi general as a nice guy who does the right thing. What the hell??? Mr. Spike Lee has comically thrown together "Do the Right Thing" and "Jungle Fever" and has presented it in an Italian WWII setting, totally dimishing the true story that could have been very compelling. My advise to Mr. Spike Lee is - get over your hatred and try to keep small mindness out of good stories and just maybe then you will be recognised for greatness.

EVEN THOUGH THERE WERE NO BLACK SOLIDERS AT THE SITE, OF THE FLAG RASING.. BUT YET, HE WANTED EASTWOOD TO USE THEM? (INTERESTING)
