In Mother and Child, he (Rodrigo Garcia) creates an emotional powerhouse. show more

Still, the goodwill lingers, even though Mother and Child falls down, dies and is beginning to look a little green and stiff about 15 minutes before the finish line. show more

Mother and Child is as tangled as the emotions that link parents and children. show more

A slow and lugubrious film about the impact of adoption on the lives of three women. show more

    Carrie Rickey Philadelphia Inquirer

While on its face, Mother and Child is about the impact of adoption, in its heart Garcia's movie reckons how consequential motherhood is in the calculus of womanhood. The fine actors show how we bond to those not related to us by blood - and also how we love. Bring Kleenex. show more

Elizabeth Weitzman New York Daily News

Very few actual mothers will appreciate the manipulative ending, which even a child could spot coming an hour away. show more

    Kirk Honeycutt The Hollywood Reporter

Some may find the film overly schematic, but Garcia smartly uses three parallel narratives to probe the extraordinary nature of motherhood. show more

When it comes to family togetherness, love and quality time are thicker than blood, water or just about any other social glue you can think of. That's the admirable if hardly news-breaking message of Rodrigo Garcia's domestic drama Mother and Child, whose official thread is the impact of adoption on three different women. show more

Garcia, despite creating yet another vibrant canvas for his actors, deflects the burden of this toughest and most modern of familial conundrums, offering instead the bland, regressive ideal of motherhood as not only redemptive but required. show more

A flawless film of heartrending realism about the eternal chord that binds parents and children and the emptiness when they are separated. show more

This was an excellent movie! It is not for people who crave action. IMO the explicit sex scenes were unnecessary.

Maybe you hAD TO HAVE BEEN THERE TO Appreciate this movie. As the mother of an adopted daughter who today herself is a mother, the weaving ofg this story struck every possible real-life challenge and reward for all parties in the adoption triad: mother, child and adoptive parents. Each role was sensitively played and several moments were searing.

It was a wonderful story, you felt every emotion. Annette Bennings deserves an Oscar nomination for this one. Everyone was wonderful. I highly recommend this movie R. Raimi

Up until the middle of the movie I thought this movie is great and one of the best movies of the year, great acting, great dialog, great charachters and real !!! but then , on the second half of the movie, the plot developed into non-sense and the movie turned mushy and sweet like a soap opera. Too bad, I would have completely change and shorten the second half of the movie.

I enjoyed the film. If you are a true Drama Lover your movie $$ will be well spent. Not to give anything away, but the first thing I thought of after the movie was ?? Did Naomi Watts and Annette Bening collaborate about their roles during filming, even though they do not have any scenes together ?? I am probably just start struck with their performances. These gals can really act and choose cool roles !!
