The hits just keep on coming in Muscle Shoals, a hugely entertaining, perhaps overlong, documentary about the renowned recording studios in the small Alabama town of the film's title. It's mandatory viewing for fans of the classic rock, soul and rhythm and blues of the 1960s and '70s. show more

Muscle Shoals isn't perfect. Neither Bono nor Alicia Keyes has any business being in the movie, though Bono does wax poetic about the genius of the music recorded there, and Keyes teams with the Swampers for a strong performance of Dylan's "Pressing On." show more

A trove of great stills and movie footage accompanies the colorful anecdotes, but the film's most consistent pleasure is the way interviewees recall the moments before the tape rolled on an immortal recording. show more

Maybe the biggest problem with Muscle Shoals is that it doesn’t dig deeper into something even more miraculous than the music. show more

5 stars in my book. Outstanding documentary. Muscle Shoals must be included with Detroit, Memphis, Philly, Chess in Chicago and Jackson, MS. Great musicians making great music. This movie should be in more theatres.

Wow!! What a film. \"Muscle Shoals\" is the embodiment of great documentary film-making. Informative, insightful story telling, combined with a visually stunning cinematography...practically every frame a work-of-art. 5-STARS in my book.
