This film accomplishes more than most in tnat it allows us to observe those rare moments when inspiration becomes creativity and then morphs into execution. It is an odd and, in this case, most pleasant form of voyeurism. As a result, when you hear this music, and let's say you hate this kind of music (I'm not a fan myself of the singer/songwriter genre), it's going to be a real strange feeling for you to find yourself sinking into it, needing it, finding it work its way into your own sense of need to be heard, to be understood. Haven't seen a movie in a very long time accomplish that. Maybe "You, Me and Everyone We Know" came close, but that film felt more like an actual voyeuristic experience. "Once" never let's us feel like we're doing anything wrong...in fact, I would say it constantly gives us all joy and no perversity. Well done. Try not to miss this in the theater. being in a black box, unaware of your surroundings will truly finish off the magic trick for you.

This was a snoozer. The story went on and on about 2 young music lovers. It was slow moving, hard to understand the dialog, and the thought I would scream if they played one more of his songs.....

This was the most simple and honest, but yet beautiful and completely satisying film that I think I've ever seen. It's really tough to break into my top 10 films of all time, but "Once" actually did it. It's great to see this little film go to more and more screens every week purely by word of mouth. It's really a special experience. Go see it with someone you love. A film as great as this only comes along Once in a loooong time.

This wonderful, unpretentious movie was exactly as the reviews indicated it would be. It was sweet, sad, comic, real and very well acted and directed. It had its own true voice, as if you were watching the real lives of the characters. This is not a splashy movie, with great sets, wardrobe and special effects, but it has the same effect as if were so. I highly recommend it. You will get your money's worth. I give it a solid 88%, as did the consensus of reviewers.

My husband and I found this movie online, and without much thought went to see it because of the storyline and the reviews. When it started, we both thought we had made a bad choice. But it only took a few minutes and we were hooked! There wasn't a dull moment, and the actors were amazing. I had to keep reminding myself that this was only a movie and the people were acting! We would definitely recommend this movie!

worst movie I have ever seen - is you can call it a movie. someone got hold of a camera and just let it roll wherever his/her mood went. I walked out and so did a third of the audience.

I was lucky to have caught the trailer for "Once" during a movie preview. This movie hasn't been advertised as much as all the Hollywood sequels coming out. It was the music in the trailer that captured my attention. Music is indeed a powerful thing. It was then, that I told myself I had to see it. \n\nAfter seeing it, it was everything I thought it would be and more. The story is simple and it's been told before, but its execution is one that sets this movie apart from others. It's not a typical musical, but more like a long music video. It's a story that illustrates a moment in time that we can easily relate to. \n\nThis movie has moments of humor and it's songs are so telling. Hansard is charming and Irglova is candid. Both are very talented musicians turned actors. The story shows a different kind of love, a friendship that provides confidence to steer the characters in the right direction for each of them which isn't always easy to do. \n\nThe movie is sad, funny, real, everything that life is and it gives you hope. It's about a moment that happens in life that may not come by again or may not last forever, but it just might have the greatest impact on you. I know I'll be watching "Once" again.
