Where "Drive" shrewdly mystifies, Only God Forgives stupefies. You can see its gears grinding. But I'll always hang on for a rare talent like Refn. Even when he stumbles, he leaves you eager to see what he's up to next. show more

Ugly, gore-strewn and, ultimately, ridiculous. show more

God may forgive you for seeing this needlessly brutal film. But you won't forgive yourself. show more

Only God Forgives would seem to be a parody of something or other — "Blue Velvet"? "Last Year At Marienbad"? — except that the film takes itself seriously to the point of suffocation in telling its lurid tale of slaughter and revenge. show more

Whether one thinks Only God Forgives is laughably awful — like, for instance, “Showgirls,” “The Color of Night” or “Battlefield: Earth” — or just plain terrible awful depends, appropriately, on how much you’re willing to forgive it. show more

Only God Forgives is a hypnotic fugue on themes of violence and retribution, drenched in corrosive reds. show more

There’s no way to overstate the gorgeous look of this film, but the mannered dialogue and deliberateness of pace becomes less of an homage to Asian revenge films than a parody. show more

This is one of the most shocking and one of the best movies of the year. show more

The movie contains little in terms of traditional action, and Refn never uses it in a rousing or exciting manner, either. That would break the nightmarish spell this strange, beautiful film casts on the viewer. A mother’s love has never been this ruinous. show more

It takes the basic form of the revenge flick and dips it in tar, making for a movie that comes out sticky, nasty, and black. show more

Not worthy of a long review. Put simply, this film is garbage.

Literally the worst movie I\'ve watched in a VERY long time. I won\'t give it any stars. I watched until the end only because I was waiting for it to get better. I am still waiting. 89 minutes of my life I will never get back.

I didn\'t get it. Ultra violence, almost no dialogue, and no real story. I can \'t understand why Ryan would do it. If you have a weak stomach your eyes will be closed for mostg of the action. For the reatr of the time you could nap and not miss a thing

I agree with dhull. Although Kristen Scott Thomas was excellent, as she always is, I wanted there to be something more and it never came. The ambiguous ending made it even worse. I will say that the look & feel of the movie was interesting, but way too much red tint..I wonder what that symbolized.

I just saw this movie today and it is one of the worse movies I ever sat all the way through. I kept thinking it had to get better but only got worse. Kristen Scott Thomas was the only performance worth watching. The movie is like watching a bad comic book come to screen. Very little dialogue and almost robotic emotional responses from the actors. Very colorful and interesting backgrounds but almost no story and almost no acting. Beautiful but boring!
