It's a welcome update, qualifying as the best in the series since the first film captivated and unnerved audiences in 2007. show more

The concept is the same, and just as tired as it was when the second, third and fourth sequels to “Paranormal Activity’s” 2009 first installment. show more

    Justin Lowe The Hollywood Reporter

The script succeeds by expanding the Paranormal Activity mythology with additional details and even a few surprising twists. show more

Liam Lacey The Globe and Mail (Toronto)

This entry has been described as a “cousin” to the other movies. Specifically, The Marked Ones is a Hispanic cousin, customized for Latino audiences in the United States where the series is particularly popular. show more

    Roger Moore McClatchy-Tribune News Service

As exhausted as this series and the genre it comes from is, it still manages a few decent jolts thanks to that new approach and a pretty good cast’s reactions to what they, and we, see through the video camera’s viewfinder. show more

Thankfully, the entertaining chemistry between the two young leads in Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones (Andrew Jacobs and Jorge Diaz), almost saves it. show more

What I found more disturbing was the casual misogyny of the convoluted story line. show more

    Chuck Bowen Slant Magazine

Several reels' worth of ugly, unshaped footage that wouldn't have been deemed fit for a movie's end-credit outtakes not so long ago. show more

    Scott Tobias The Dissolve

The shocks are no less effective than the ones in the other Paranormal Activity movies, but no more original, either, with only the whipping of a handheld camera to set it apart from the offscreen gamesmanship that’s long been the series’ stock in trade. show more

Tom Huddleston Time Out New York

As ever with this series, the shocks are cheap but effective, and the shaky-cam aesthetic adds an unsettling layer of realism (if you’re willing to overlook the innate ridiculousness of the film-everything concept). show more

I really liked this movie. I took a totally different angle at explaining the events going on in the other episodes and really did well not only integrating with those in surprising and unexpected ways but also as a unique and stand alone creepy and eerie story! WATCH THIS MOVIE! If you are a horror fan you will love it!

Boring, amateurish and a total waste of money and time. I was bored to tears, not at all scared -- save your money. Does not even rate one star.

90 minutes of my life I\'ll never get back. Don\'t know if the \'audience\' in the TV promo is on crack, but not the least bit scary. First half-hour dragged...would\'ve been less painful if I stuck needles in my eye. Save your money or wait to spend $1 at Redbox.

This movie seriously stunk! So boring I took a nap. The camera work was AWFUL. I hate that shaky garbage, and it DOES NOT make anything scarier. No story, no character development. Entire movie in the dark ( minus first couple showing kids graduating). Just stop with this. It was awful.
