This is the worst film that I have ever seen. It is disjointed , unfocused, poorly acted and a total waste of my time.

I walked out after 25min. This is self indulgent drivel that someone apparently feels is worthy of calling cinema. I love Anne Hathaway but she is not a sympathetic figure in this move - just a brat. Avoid this movie like the plague.

I couildn't agree with FBurcaw more. After 45 minutes I was suffering from motion sickness. I tried listening rather than watching because I started sweating and feeling queasy. I finally left before I got sick. I was very disappointed since it had great reviews. Of the sister, I preferred Kym to Rachel. I found the film suffocating but perhaps that was the point.

Upon a second viewing, the diaalogue seems almost improvised. Chaaracters interrupt one another, give tangential responses and seem to move the momentum of a moment aimlessly. However, a pattern emerges for me. The characters, reflected by the dialogue are struggling for meaning, aand all of this desperate searching happens while a wedding, a life changing event, is being planned, also seeming aimlessly. For many, some of these moments may strike a responsive cord. Hathaway's tortured character artifully embodies the existential spine of this film. A five star for film students, a lonely star for audiences seeking an entertaining evening.

This is a raw and emotional film, dealing with addiction and family. As a family member of an addict, I could definitely relate to the characters. I can appreciate a lot of the merits of this movie - it's great acting, etc - but it seemed to drag on.... especially the wedding scene. You definitely have to prepare yourself for it, and don't go in looking for a pick-me-up.

Though a good but very depressing movie. I thought characters just did not match, like Rachel;s husband to be??? Not beleivable... And if you have lost a loved one to drugs I would not reccomend this movie...

Anyone who dislikes this film, let alone hates it, has the depth of Shallow Hal. The writing and direction bring an extraordinary integration of whirling layers of emotion and camerawork to a story that is related in the best tradition of Robert Altman - a story too full to be told in the typical narrative arc. That music (which is cloying and melancholy) others found so annoying (as do one of the characters in the film) is a reminder that life's profound tragedies recede from focus but never go away. I loved that the engagement of the film's bi-racial couple brings together a spectacularly diverse group of people, including soon-to-be-in-laws meeting for the first time, and this is so beside the point - credible only in current times. I loved that it is Anne Hathaway's portrayal of Kym, struggling with the demons of a recovering addict, and NOT the sweetly respectful and caring relationship of the bride and groom that is the heart of the film. I loved that it's the patriarch of the family, not the matriarch, who in an endearingly frantic, generous manner, tries to keep everyone happy by feeding them. There were a number of scenes brilliantly acted, faces emoting with an intensity and truthfulness words could not possibly convey (The actress playing Carol was especially noteworthy when reacting to an especially painful story being told by Kym). The movie is a contemporary classic to anyone with half a literary orientation.

We went because it was billed as a comedy and we wanted a fun-filled break from gloom. WRONG CHOICE! The only people that would like this crap is someone under 25 that uses daily or their families that have to deal with a self-absorbed, "it's all about me" child that can't see beyond the end of their nose - they're the only ones that could possibly relate. What a piece of trash.
