  • Lee's latest rambles through almost two hours of unfocused drama, burdened with endless didactic editorializing, before lurching out of nowhere into ugly revelations and violence. show more

  • The seamless juxtaposition of faith and pain, innocence and guilt, allows the film to transcend Spike Lee's occasional bombastic moments and become a strong examination of internal suffering. show more

  • Here is Lee at his most spontaneous and sincere, but he could have used another screenplay draft, and perhaps a few more transitional scenes. show more

I have always been a big fan of spike but this movie fell short of my expectations. The biggest disappointment for me was using actors/actresses that don\'t deliver professional results. Clark Peters aside very few decent performances. I understand giving new Black actors the rare opportunity in hollywood, but the caliber needs to be there. The script could have been better, better written and less disorganized.. The first half of the movie straddles along rather dull and unrealistic finally engaging somewhat as the plot uncovers itself. No question Lee is a excellent director but this wasn\'t his best work. Spike? Get better writers and don\'t lose your passion for telling a story, you are the only director that can share a true vision of the African American experience.

This was a great movie. Touched all avenues. Church folks really need to check this out.
