I think it is very interesting that this movie is not being shown anywhere in the Northwest Arkansas (Fayetteville, Rogers, Springdale, Bentonville) area. Why is this? We happen to be in the "buckle of the Bible belt" -- could that have some impact on this decision not to show this movie?????

Anyone that undertakes a serious study of human history and the belief in religion will come to the same understanding, that religion is the method by which people dealt with the unknowns of their existance when they did not understand the reality of their world. We can excuse people thousands of years ago for believing in things that did not exist (gods and spirits). Today there is no excuse. Bills bold stance for pointing out that religion is a throwback to the bronze age is an excellent first step for getting mankind to base our lives on reality, not on mythology. Imagine a world without religion: the world trade center towers would still be standing.

In the Army during the Vietnam war, we had a soldier who read the bible every day and quoted from the scriptures. Back then, I thought the bible was a work of fiction just like any novel you may happen to read. For most of my life, I have been an agnostic so I was really looking forward to this movie. I was not disappointed. This was one of the funniest movies I have seen in a long time and it just reinforced my belief that religion causes more harm to society than any other factor. What is most troubling is that the intolerance of religious sects is getting more and more active. Can we turn back the religious tide? While making the religious leaders look ridiculous Bill Maher doesn't really present a solution to our obvious demise as killing in the name of G-d will probably continue, unabated. While being hysterically funny, the movie is also extremely disturbing.

If the bashers would see the film, they would know exactly why Maher is concerned about other peoples' faith. Irrationality threatens us all. Especially sobering is the end of the film which offers no solution, only warnings. I wish I believed that the gloomy tone is why it is rated R, but I'm quite sure it's instead due to a brief glimpse of a woman's breast, some mild cussing, and a scene where people are smoking pot legally. Maher for President.

I do not think most people care that Mr. Maher brings up questions about faith or questions the belief in God. It is his arrogance and disrespect when speaking on the issue. Faith in God is the most important thing in many people's lives, black or white, male or female. I think he is lacking is some sort of basic decency in the way he speaks about something so important to so many. WHO IS HE TO SAY SUCH HORRIBLE GROSS THINGS. I MEAN HE MUST HAVE A SCREW LOOSE TO RANT ON THE WAY HE DOES ABOUT THIS LOVE OF HIGHER POWER THAT SO MANY HOLD SO DEAR. WHAT HAS HE DONE IN HIS LIFE THAT QUALIFIES HIM TO SPEAK IN SUCH A VILE MANNER??????

Too all the religious elitist nuts out there who hate bill maher for bringing the ignorance and arrogance of god to the public eye... PLEASE SHUT UP! You cant bash a man for disagreeing with an idea when faith pushers do it all the time. Its so hypocritical of you people to become offended when someone speaks out against your IDEAS (not facts) and then crucify others of a different belief for not sharing yours. I guess thats why so many republicans are catholic / christian. Thanks for reading and please dont follow this up with any more babble about god.

This movie is not based on atheism. It is based on agnosticism, because that's what Bill Maher believes. The only thing that makes sense is to NOT know, and that's why Maher made this movie. He asks religious people why they believe what they believe and finds that many of these people don't even understand what they say they believe in. That's what he's mocking, not God. He has admitted many times that he won't deny nor believe in the existence of God because both are equally irrational.

When I am facing death I had much rather have Christ by my side than Bill Maher. I just wonder how bold and arrogant some of the people who are so quick to mock God will be when the grim reaper is grabbing their necks?
