Ride the High Country (1962) -- Sam Peckinpah 's first feature, a revisionist western about two faded lawmen (played by real Western stars Randolph Scott and Joel McCrea ) appeals to me for the same reason as Casablanca -- it's about remembering your ideals, and the power of believing in something bigger than yourself.

If you're going to make a movie within a movie that is supposed to be utterly ridiculous satire – and never for a moment what anyone would dare to call good - then it is of the utmost importance that this sequence not be more engaging than the movie surrounding it.
