  • September Dawn, written by an evangelical Christian, may be the worst historical drama ever made. show more

  • Cain has crafted a modest picture, filmed in Canada, that too often feels like a very elaborate episode of "Gunsmoke." show more

  • Most significant and contrary to the Mormon Church's ongoing position, the film depicts Young as present when the plot is hatched to slaughter the emigrants. Needless to say, this workmanlike but unflinching film won't be playing in Utah anytime soon. show more

Wow... what a waste of money. As a history buff... i was disappointed in the gray historical reference, fictitious characters, and loose (at best) innuendo. This movie was a hack job... attacking the Mormon and General Religious Community as a whole. This movie was sold to shed light and educate us on what happened on that fateful September tragedy. Instead, it dug up the most controversial, undocumented, and biased version of the event protrayed by "organized religion-haters" and slapped it on film. Just in time too... when a Mormon is running for President (coincidence? NOT!!!). This version of the story should be filed with all the other conspiracy theorist's sponsored crap. It also shows how much bigotry and hatred there still are for other people. If you want to watch this movie... dont waste your money. Find away to watch it for free, so no more money goes in to sponsor Historical Hacks.

I am afraid that "Googling" the controversial aspects of the massacre would be pointless, seeing that a lot of the information comes from the same kind of people who made this pathetic movie. They all seem to leave out the fact that Brigham Young scolded the men who commited the horrible act. What they also fail to mention, is that the Mormons had been persecuted and driven from place to place for years. They finally withstood the trek to Utah, with the loss of countless members of the church. Not too long after the mormon settlers arrived, the same people who had driven them from what was once their home, decided to pass through mormon territory. One must wonder, first off, why they chose to pass through the territory in the first place. Was Utah not big enough for them to pass through? They also fail to mention that when these people passed through the Mormon's territory, many of them burned crops and killed livestock. Now, this is no excuse for a massacre. And like I said, Brigham Young said that the men who did it would be held accountable for their actions. However, it would be great if the movie showed the other side of the story. The movie is simply outrageous. It is either an attempt at making Romney look like a "Christian" killer, or a poor attempt at tying the event with 9/11.
