Wow... what a waste of money. As a history buff... i was disappointed in the gray historical reference, fictitious characters, and loose (at best) innuendo. This movie was a hack job... attacking the Mormon and General Religious Community as a whole. This movie was sold to shed light and educate us on what happened on that fateful September tragedy. Instead, it dug up the most controversial, undocumented, and biased version of the event protrayed by "organized religion-haters" and slapped it on film. Just in time too... when a Mormon is running for President (coincidence? NOT!!!). This version of the story should be filed with all the other conspiracy theorist's sponsored crap. It also shows how much bigotry and hatred there still are for other people. If you want to watch this movie... dont waste your money. Find away to watch it for free, so no more money goes in to sponsor Historical Hacks.

I am afraid that "Googling" the controversial aspects of the massacre would be pointless, seeing that a lot of the information comes from the same kind of people who made this pathetic movie. They all seem to leave out the fact that Brigham Young scolded the men who commited the horrible act. What they also fail to mention, is that the Mormons had been persecuted and driven from place to place for years. They finally withstood the trek to Utah, with the loss of countless members of the church. Not too long after the mormon settlers arrived, the same people who had driven them from what was once their home, decided to pass through mormon territory. One must wonder, first off, why they chose to pass through the territory in the first place. Was Utah not big enough for them to pass through? They also fail to mention that when these people passed through the Mormon's territory, many of them burned crops and killed livestock. Now, this is no excuse for a massacre. And like I said, Brigham Young said that the men who did it would be held accountable for their actions. However, it would be great if the movie showed the other side of the story. The movie is simply outrageous. It is either an attempt at making Romney look like a "Christian" killer, or a poor attempt at tying the event with 9/11.

Really one of the best movies I have seen all year. A wonderful script and the direction was flawless. I loved it. Kudos for a brave film that makes a difference.

My great grandmother, Prudence Angeline Dunlap Koen, was a surviving child of Lorenzo and Nancy Dunlap. Two Dunlap families and a Mitchell family were related. Twenty one family members murdered and only five little cousin girls survived. The horror that she faced all her life could not have been shown more clearly. She watched her family murdered and was afraid for her life if she ever mentioned what she knew had happened. The after math of the massacre was as cruel as the massacre it's self. I, as a victim, am glad the truth has been told. The injustice of a cover up and the blame placed on victims and on Indians has continued up until the 1999 unearthing of bones at a grave site. This discovery did indeed prove that it was not done by the Indians. Who ever doubts the severity of this massacre and thinks it should have never been told, did not live with the reality of it in their family. Healing can never start if the truth is hidden by lies. This movie has opened the door for an apology, and there is hope one will come. It has nothing to do with the Mormon religion, just the fact they would not admit to the truth.

I am extremely disappointed that the Beatles songs are not done by the original Beatles. As far as a movie goes, it was a great movie with an artistic taste that is impressive. However, I do not understand the connection here with the Beatles, and I do not understand why only Beatles music was in the album. I also would like to know why they did not take the Beatles original songs instead of going with re-makes. That tainted the entire movie for me. It shows no respect to the great Beatles. Until I hear that Paul McCartney approval, I will always have hatred for this movie. You don't mess with legends like the Beatles. You leave their music alone. If you have deeper insight on my questions concerning the Beatles' connection to the movie, I would greatly appreciate your wisdom. Right now, I know I am an amateur writer and I do not know where to go to find my answers online. Thank you.

Very powerful movie. Will probably see it again. It is not Mormon bashing; Sometimes things happen that people should know about. I am sure that every religion has skeletons in their closets.

I read "The God Makers" several years ago, since I wanted to learn about the Mormon Church. I learned that the LDS members are taught to believe that there are many heavens and that you, indeed, can become a God and, as a woman, have many celestial babies. I also have a friend whose own mother was converted to Mormonism and she wore the Holy underwear (which is never to be removed. . . you can put on a clean pair while pulling off the soiled pair at the same time) and was even buried with it. In the book "Kingdom of the Cults", it is not even considered to be a religion. I have not seen the movie, but I plan to this week-end. I know that it is fiction, but I also wonder about people who can actually worship such a fictional travesty and who believe that they can actually become a God. I know this, because I had a friend who was trying to convert me PLUS the elders were after me and, the first question always asked is, "Do you believe that Joseph Smith was a Saint?" I prefer to believe in Fred Flintstone.

I'm so glad I didn't see the critics' reviews before I saw this powerful movie, or I might have skipped it. Mrdogted, thank you for your review. I agree wholeheartedly. To yours, I'll add it was poignant, romantic and gave me much to comtemplate about the actual events. The acting and scenery were superb, as well. I plan to see it again and again.

I am from the Fancher family. It has been just the past few years I have studied this massacre. I don't want to pay to see a movie that makes light of this. I have not seen the Fancher name anywhere. I do beleive that it is out (movie) so if Romley is nominated no one can say"this is where he is from" they will have already brought it to our attention.
