Yes, he did kill seven people in the car accident with his wife. If you will look at the newspaper clipping, it says car accident kills seven. I LOVED this movie. I am currently waiting on a kidney transplant, so this movie hit home.

i loved the movie, but, sorry Mwright0622, he didn't kill 7 people. the point of the 7 waz because he donated pieces of himself to seven different people. his eyes to ezra ( the blind guy), his heart to emily, and his other organs to people who were in need. plus, he gave his house to that woman with the two kids, so he didn't destroy 7 peoples' lives, he changed them for the better. <(^^<) (>^^)>

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, however i don't get some of you saying how bad the movie was. Why? Because it was a movie that made you think and feel? It was a very deep movie with a lot of emotion to it. Of course he didn't smile a lot in the movie, he was playing a character that was sad because he was responsible for the deaths of 7 people. The title does not refer to the amount of pounds the donated organs weighed.. It's much deeper than that.. Look up the expression 'a pound of flesh'. I think some people are looking into the suicide too much to see the true beauty of this movie. I'm a Christian as well and know that suicide is very wrong... but the point is to understand WHY he chose to do what he did. I had already planned to be an organ donor.. But watching this movie, maybe someone else can see the selfless-ness of it and how you can make someone else's life so much better..

When did we start beliving that suicide was a way to redeem our mistakes/sins,As far as Im concerned this movie has sent the wrong message to our children and young adults & my generation. JESUS DIED FOR OUR SINS NOT HIS. I never thought that Will Smith would have supported SUICIDE as a way out..

I personally think that one of the points of this film was overlooked. The point being that miracles often come from sources that we would least expect. Good to know, no? Kudo's to the entire cast.

This is a "rental movie" - way toooooo long to even know the plot - Will's performance was about a 3 on scale 1-10 - he has alot of talent but this movie did not show much. The only thing I got out of it that I hope PEOPLE WILL GET IS NOT TO TEXT AND DRIVE AT THE SAME TIME, that message was real - the rest was a bit out there.

If you don't want to know in advance what the title means, STOP READING this HERE. First of all, a human heart doesn't weigh seven pounds. Ever heard the expression "a pound of flesh?" It refers to Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice, in which one of the characters is called on to pay back a debt by sacrificing a pound of his own flesh. Whether or not Will Smith's character's donations weighed exactly seven pounds, he was acting out of the guilt he felt for having been responsible for the deaths of seven people. Seven deaths. Seven debts. Seven Pounds of flesh, the seventh being his own life.
