Plot Summary
As the mental ward where patient Lillian Huckle (Peggy Ashcroft) has lived for more than 50 years is about to close, the elderly woman faces a return to the outside world. With nowhere to go, her nephew, Hugh Ambrose (James Fox), begrudgingly offers to take her in. While Lillian's presence in the Ambrose household is initially a disruption, the septuagenarian eventually forms a bond with Hugh's pregnant wife, Harriet (Geraldine James), whose loneliness she understands all too well.
