Whoever wrote these first two reviews must be the filmmakers because this is one OF THE WORST MOVIES EVER MADE!

PG rating? SPOILERS AHEAD: I took my two granddaughters, ages 3 and 7, to see this film, and I'm sorry I did. A scene with a savage, bloody beating ends with a young driver about to be placed in a tank filled with voracious piranha fish. Then, when one of the bad guys is forced to block a bullet hole in the aquarium with his finger and the piranha gobble his finger, he screams and the water in the tank turns red, I walked out with my granddaughters and received free replacement tickets from the manager. I'll review films a little more carefully from now on before taking impressionable young children to see PG-rated so-called kid's movies.

I fondly remember watching speed racer as a 6 year old 40 years ago. I never missed an episode. I Just got back from taking my 8, 10 and 17 y/o sons to see it. If you were a fan of the original series as I was you can appreciate a lot of the special effects, the slightly campy and cheesy plot, but hey... We're talking the MACH 5 here folks... Not your average race car. The rating was appropriate for this movie PG, but a PG-13 would have been more appropriate. With about 30 seconds of editing it could have been G rated. But this is the movie industry today. The few curses and one or two overly violent scenes could have been cut with little impact to the film. I would not recommend this movie for any child under age eight, IMHO, because of these scenes.I read the highly critical reviews of the "critics" and was truly appalled at the severe criticism written about this film. Apart from the above it kept us on our seats, had the crowd cheering and hooting and hollering... "GO SPEED GO!" half the time.I would ignore the critics, parents, unless your a "Puritan" in terms of movie ethics this is really great movie to see with your older children. The movie teaches a few lessons in ethics and morality. Bad guys DO LOSE and good guys DO finish first. The concept of FAMILY is important, not money, greed or power. and - never eat too much candy! :-)My rating a 90 out of 100 ...

Being a PG film and not a PG-13 film I thought it'd be ok to take my brothers kids to see it. They are 12 and 9 years old. In the movie they say the S word 4 times, the A word 9 times, one kid flips off an adult (essentially the F Word), they say a few others like God **** and they bleep out one time when he say's F out loud, but you can read his mouth.I can not believe this film got a PG rating....I left mad. I would not have exposed them to this kind of language...I'm no religious freak, but that much cuss words for a film that is rated for kids under 12 is not right. This should be a pg-13 film.

I went to see Speed Racer with a group ranging in age from 9 to 43, and we all had a great time with the tongue-in-cheek action this flick takes directly out of its anime predecessor. Plenty of laughs, don't let anybody tell you that this movie is "nothing like the cartoon", as one local critic put it. Almost every character in the movie can be traced back to the '60's counterpart, and the live actors in their roles are savvy enough to hit the personalities dead on their marks. None of this merits an Oscar, nor does any other part of the movie (except perhaps costumes). In fact, all the glitz and flash of the computer-generated surroundings actually attracts attention away from a decent story that is more character-driven than most anime, even the original. I believe this over-the-top animation around our motion-captured heroes fuels critics' revulsion. In short, this is the perfect movie to take the whole family out to start the summer blockbuster season, perhaps just the matinee. (4 of 5 stars)

I went and saw it twice this weekend. Easily one of the most visually beautiful movies ever made. i don't think any movie before this one has given me more goosebump moments. It has a positive family message, beautifully paced and edited race sequences, it's faithful to the cartoon and the original characters, and just takes the audience on a wild, non stop ride.I enjoyed this far more than the underwhelming Ironman. I will probably see it a third time before it leaves theaters.

went there with my kids to the movie. My son wanted to see the movie since he have been watching the Speed Racer Cartoons. Have many Hot Wheels. Guess what happened? He fell asleep. For a kid that talks about cars all day long fell asleep during this movie. Never done that before. Also, the movie should be rated at much higher rating than PG since the actors were cursing and using violence to win a race.

This is a rare PG rated movie that both my father (43) and myself (18) absolutely loved!! And want to see it again! The movie ended with both our jaws dropped in amazement of how cool it was. "Speed Racer" is a fun, exciting, revolutionary movie that anyone can enjoy. And it is simply wrong as to how people are reviewing this movie. We both also saw "Iron Man" which was good, but after seeing "Speed Racer", neither of us can look at "Iron Man" quite the same. This is one movie the critics are absolutely wrong on.

A great film for the family with older kids, 11up, loaded with winks and nods to the fans of the classic TV cartoon. Hearing the jump sound fx made me feel as if I was a little girl again. Special effects were spectacular and I laughed again and again at the campy moments throughout yet it didn't cross into being a parody. However, it was way too long. The beginning was poor, it lost its way at times and after a while you just didn't care what happened with the villains. But - I still found it rather entertaining ... for me, a low B
