I'm a horror movie fanatic. I'm was so pleased with this movie. Maybe there's hope for this dying genre after all. I felt like this movie had all the elements of a true horror masterpiece. Let me warn you though. The ending is horrible. It broke my heart. But hey, it's a horror movie, isn't it supposed to horrify you? I'll definitely buy this when it comes out on DVD!-LeO

If you like suspense and a little bit of gore, this movie is up your alley. I read the book first and my mental interpretation compared to the actual film was pretty close, despite the new ending portrayed in the movie. While I wouldn't call the entire movie brilliant, it was definitely entertaining and mentally stimulating, and I would recommend viewing it, especially if you are a Stephen King fan. Marcia Gay Harden's depiction of Mrs. Carmody was spot on and the rest of the cast performed well for their respective rolls. I expected some over-acting, however they all stayed in the realm of their character identities. As for the ending, that was a twist I never expected and thought it was exceptional, even though there are a lot of other opinions.

My sister and I thought this film would have been more accurately titled "Dumbasses In The Mist."

Maybe I shouldn't be writing a review about a movie whose genre I don't generally care for. I like more suspenseful horror, like the Shining and Scream. The dialogue between the characters was good and the acting was also good. The blonde, Laurie Holden, was stunningly beautiful. However, the movie had too much gore and the ending was extremely depressing. I have to say I hated this movie.

First, The ending was the worst ending I've ever seen in a movie. And, Who in the right mind would kill their own child. Anyone who has a child...knows they would never do anything like that. This movie was so bad I signed up up on here...just to write a review. Who ever says it is good...is sick in the HEAD!!! I would never ever recommend this movie to anyone. Plus, Half the monsters looked super fake.....they could have done more with special effects.

Make room for one more in the worst movie of all time award. This was a waste of time and a real let down! This should have been another bad made for T.v Stephen King special. At least then I could have switched the channel.

Stephen King writes terrific books until you get to the end. He just can't seem to wrap up his plot. While not a waste of time, I was really hoping for more. The intensity was there, but the religious zealot was given way too much credibility by folks who knew here to be believeable, and the attorney was too stereotypical for words. So much potential, so medocre in delivery.
