For those of you who don't understand this, when a person enlists in the military, Uncle Sam basically owns you for 8 calendar years. If you sign up for 4 and get out, you are considered IRR (Inactive Ready Reserve) for the remaining 4 years. Enlist for 3; you become IRR for the next 5 years. We who served know this, and understand that most of the time we can finish out IRR without being recalled. We also understand that during wartime the chance of being recalled is much greater depending on our specialty (MOS or Rate). Some vets may not like it, but we know it can happen. The term Stop-Loss is just an emphasis during wartime to show what is already on the books. It's nothing new. As long as you can separate politics and agenda from a story about one soldier and what he goes through in a fictional plot, you might just enjoy the movie.

I was looking on this sight to determine whether or not I would like to see this movie when I read a few disturbing comments. I would like to now explain some of the issues I am seeing. The first issue is that none of you understand what "stop-loss" is; it is a Military regulation that allows the Government to cease slodiers from ETS-ing (from getting OUT of the military). When they bring a IRR soldier back into the military it is known as a mobilization muster or simply recall. The second issue I noticed is the lack of sympathy for the soldiers that are being called back. I would like to first note that any person that has served in the military has a right and valued opinion to whether it is or is not cowardly to go AWOL rather than to go back into the military; you have earned the right to judge. If you have not served in the military and you feel it is cowardly, or if you actually think that an 18 year old kid understands the intricate and ambiguous military contract, join up yourself! I would say that you who are so quick to judge cowardice are too much of a coward to even imagine serving your country, so don't pass judgement on something you don't understand. That is really all I have to say, but I would like to see this movie now that it has caused so much of a stir.

Please, tiatinydog, understand it wasn't about the Soldier going AWOL just for the HELL OF IT. It was about the fact that he had already served his term and served it proudly and with hard work and dedication to the point he realized the mistake he made(did you catch it) and he should have been able to end his contract term honorably and transition back into civilian life, thats all. God I hope when my Son comes home in June from Iraq he will not be recalled or "stop lossed", I'm sure he will it is expected, yes he did "volunteer", I understand that, but please understand, my son "volunteered over and beyond the point of just signing a contract agreement". For months he begged to go to Iraq with a unit other than his unit (meaning his unit has not been deployeed at this time) finally he got the approval to deploy with another unit, along with 3 of his best friends who also asked to go outside of their unit deployment and has been there since last year, please don't get me wrong, I am very proud of him and the choice he made, but I and possibly he would be very disappointed if he had to turn around and go right back, now I'm not saying I would help him go AWOL nor have I even entertained the thought. I just believe that once the Soldier's tour is completed honorably then they should be allowed to move on with their life. That was the way I interpret the movie.

This movie started like it was going to be really, really awful. Then the power failed and it got a lot better. When they told us the power wouldn't be restored an we'd get our money back, it got to be wonderful.

A movie that leaves you with alot of questions and a very sad heart. Would love to buy Mr. President a bucket of popcorn, a pop and a movie ticket to see this movie...if he can leave the theater with out a ache in his gut or a tear in his eye, I will treat him to dinner...Got Bless our Soldiers...

I thought this movie was so well done. I'm embarassed to say I didn't even know of stop-loss until I saw this movie. I thought the whole cast was great and the movie was like 2 hours but it just flowed nicely and didn't feel like 2 hours!! I'd highly recommend it

Saw this movie the other night....great cast... excellent film!!The "Stop-Loss" program is indeed a reality in the military, they can call you back when needed. It does exist, as explained at the end of the film. Apparently many military personnel have been "victims" of this program. But....as one person already pointed out, when you sign on the dotted line...read the fine print!!!I also noticed the "facial cut above Ryan's eye" moving from one side of face to the other....hmmm.Other than that, excellent film!!! WELL ACTED!!!

I loved this movie. Just when you think that you have survived the horror of war, escaping with your life, you are double-crossed into reliving the experience.I really felt for this young man, who thought that he could trust and go on with his life after serving his country. Alas, that was not the case.Without giving away the ending, let it be known that the country he proudly served will not be his for long.Bless these young men who give their life, limbs and futures for a questionable task.

i have always respected our men and women in uniforms. i have never heard of "stop loss" until last saturday nite at the movies.their story is completely disheartening. you could actually hear a pin drop right after the movie ended.stellar acting and an excellent script. people in the white house, when do we intend to bring our boys and girls back home? gas prices is up, layoffs are spreading like wild fire, federal reserve bailing out our banks, you guys telling us to spend our economic stimulus recovery money out there to bail out businesses. whoa! i don't have any families sent out to iraq and i want our troops back where they belong! HOME.
