This is a great movie full of pathos and the inherit sadness of aging and the human condition. I could not recommend it more.

Absolutely depressing! Husband & I, both "senior citizens," left theatre in a cloud of despondency. Yikes, what a miserable way to spend a Friday evening. Albeit that Hal Holbrook is an accomplished actor & he played the character beautifully, we greatly regretted squirming through 2 hours of this film.

The old farmer was a craggy curmudgeon, but I was rooting for him the whole way; admired his gumption, if not his diplomacy. When he took his neighbor's dog home to his 'slave quarters' I knew the poor dog was done for. Just a matter of time. Fine acting, but slow moving. If U are old and can't trust blood relatives, situation sad. marie
