Plot & Details

Aaron McGruder's satirical and often-controversial cartoon tackles a wide array of issues in its second season, including snitching, hip-hop culture, Hurricane Katrina, slavery, and the use of the N-word. Huey Freeman, the show's thoughtful and introspective young narrator, continues to find himself mystified by the behavior of his brother, Riley, and grandfather, Robert. In one instance, Riley and Robert refuse to cooperate with the police -- because of a "no snitching" policy on the streets -- after Riley witnesses the theft of Robert's car. Also, Riley's involvement with local rapper Thugnificent and his cronies irks Huey, who doesn't buy into their lifestyle. But Huey's battles aren't always so philosophically loaded, as demonstrated when Robert leaves the boys home alone and the pair wage an all-out battle to decide who's in charge. Their neighbors the DuBois family face their own set of problems, most notably when Sarah puts her marriage to Tom in jeopardy after becoming infatuated with R&B singer Usher, whom their daughter, Jazmine, also idolizes. Uncle Ruckus adds to the conflict in the neighborhood as he continues to keep a careful watch over the Freemans and, at one point, hounds the family after they sneak into a movie. The regular voice cast features Regina King, John Witherspoon, and Cedric Yarbrough. Season two guest voices include Snoop Dogg, Mo'Nique, Samuel L. Jackson, Mos Def, Ghostface Killah, Busta Rhymes, Xzibit, Cedric the Entertainer, Donald Faison, and Fred Willard.
