A classic movie from a classic novel. Robert Donat as and Elissa Landi give fine performances as the principal players. Supporting cast are excellent also. Somewhat jumpy in its pacing in the first h... alf, the second half is more relaxed. The movie hints that Mercedes' son was fathered by Dantes before mercedes married after thinking Dantes was dead, as both were sailors at heart, this could only be suggested since this would have meant an immoral (back then) out-of-wedlock union. Explicitly in the film, the son was conceived in marriage after Dantes was thought to be dead. Fine drama that has held up over time. Full Review
