This was the most borning put together of a remake or any other movie I have ever seen. The best part was the ending so we could leave.

save your money for fuel. This movie did actually make the world stand still because we were all waiting for a great movie and we are still waiting. Wost ending, bad special effects, the list goes on. Plus the frozen, one expression, Keenu Reeves made the movie even more boring.

The premise was actually pretty decent (considering how it differed from the original movie) and the build up wasn't bad (however wasn't great either). The movie wasn't as preachy as I feared it would be which was also good. On the other hand, the acting and/or characters were atrocious. This was the worst role I've seen Kathy Bates in (and I think her ability as an actress was the only redeeming feature of the character). Jennifer Connely remains more of a pretty face (to me) then a real actress, adding no dimension to her character at all (including a very poor attachment to her adopted son as a single mother). Jaden Smith (Will Smith's son) had perhaps the worst character in the movie; a not-so-precocious adopted son of Jennifer Connely whose sole purpose seems to be to convince the aliens that Humanity should be killed becuase of the worthlessness of their off spring. Keenu Reeves was perfect in his role as the emotionless alien (a role quite suited to him). The most interesting character I found in the film was John Cleese, who we got to see for all of 90 seconds (if that). Effects wise the movie gets an extra star as expected. However while I liked seeing the retro looking robot (a close hold over from the original movie) and some of the best scenes involved that robot, the grossly large "nanites" were a hollywood mess. Why insect form (especially a fly)? Why do they appear to disentegrate everything but on a very meandering path? Sci-fi writers/fans will cringe when they see them in action. Overall a disappointing movie given the hype, as most "blockbusters" tend to be. Especially if you were a fan of the original. 2 Stars.

Soory my review did't come thru. The 1951 film was and remains a classic like Forbidden Planet. This new remake was pure TRASH!

I hope their is a sequel that will complete the story. I agree that this movie did not follow the original that closely, and to many questions remain. A sequel might include the ending with the speech to the world. Another thing, I wanted Gort to be more than a bunch of locusts. I wanted him to be more active in defending the ship and Klatu. Mr. Reeves was good for the part. The original movies is still my favorite.

save your money rent the orginal and watch a real movie. this might make this one better when you rent it on dvd. I loved the orginal but this should have followed that one more closely. If you knew the orginal you could follow this.

Remember that annoying screamer girl in War of The Worlds? She is back in this movie as an annoying little boy. The Ending was not great without a speech to the world. No one will really know why the aliens just left.
