Sinfully funny. show more
Mistrustful of its audience, it's full of actors -- apart from Streep -- playing broad attitudes rather than characters. Crafted like a high end TV show, it's a sort of video Vogue -- lite, brite and trite. show more
Setting her (Streep) face into a mask of composure that suggests Darth Vader by way of a Kabuki actor, the most expressive of American actresses shows how power is expressed in the lack of facial and vocal expression. show more
Superb, wickedly funny, satire of the world of high fashion. The performances were strong and makes the point that no woman can really have it all. The film suggests that women must choose between a high-profile career and have a relationship with a man. The male characters are too weak and insecure to accept a fully actuated romantic partner. No self-respecting ambition young man would have passed on the opportunities offered to the female protagonist. At the end of the day, the mopey boyfriend lands a good job offer in another city-- and no doubt will expect his partner to understand his devotion to his career.
i just cant get enough of this movie!
