The Edge of Heaven (Auf der anderen Seite) User Reviews

My friend and I went to see The Edge of Heaven because of the excellent reviews. I was disappointed. On the positive side were the acting and characterization, the cinematography, and the score. There were a number of reasons why I felt disappointed. Hope, forgiveness, redemption, does not have to come as the result of trauma, in this case death. Other movies and books have handled this theme without the need to resort to the violent death of characters. I also felt the movie tried to handle too many different themes, cultural similarities and differences, parental relationships, anger, frustration, tolerance, and religious. I also do not like movies going from past, to present, to past. I have seen to many movies recently that use this technique and although I comprehend it , I think sometimes these different methods are used more as a contrivance for critics and moviegoers to feel a deeper appreciation of the film and the creativity of the director and writer. I will say in conclusion that these are personal observations and it should not prevent others from seeing this superbly acted movie and form their own opinion.
