  • The real defeat in this ambling fairy tale of hardship, abandonment and resilience is that two potentially winning central characters -- and the tender young actors who play them -- are let down by a programmed screenplay that’s short on narrative muscle. show more

  • Though it boasts an eye-catching roster of supporting performances — Jennifer Hudson, Jordin Sparks, Jeffrey Wright, Anthony Mackie — most of the running time is spent with Mister (Skylan Brooks) and Pete (Ethan Dizon), and both child actors hold your attention impressively. show more

The inevitable defeat of Mister and Pete is a real good movie about the lives of two children, who are forced to grow up fast during a New York summer. The acting is great and story is believable. I am going to purchase a copy when it comes out on DVD.

Good movie. Mister is brave beyond his years. Pete, with that adorable face, can melt a hardened criminal\'s heart with just 1 teardrop. By the end of the film, I wanted to adopt these two boys.
