This is the zenith of Paul Muni's short but illustrious career. Though he won the oscar for Louis Pasteur, anyone seeing this movie will wonder how he never won it for this pciture. The answer is he... was not popular like his chief rival at MGM, Spencer Tracy. No-one could play a biographical figure better then Paul Muni. HIs intense depiction of Zola defending the wrongly accused Dreyfuss is one of the all time performances. Sadly, Muni is all but forgotten in today's Hollywood, a result of his inaccessibility during his heyday. Full Review
