    Peter Travers Rolling Stone

The result is just good enough to pass as an action flick you watch with the forgiving gaze that comes from too many beers and too little sleep. show more

    Mick LaSalle San Francisco Chronicle

To the extent that it's original, The Mechanic is insane, bordering on gloriously insane. show more

  • 63
    Scott Bowles USA Today

Brisk, brutal and unconcerned with collateral damage, The Mechanic doesn't pave much of anything new in the assassin-for-hire genre. But when it kills, it does so with style. show more

    Joe Morgenstern Wall Street Journal

Mr. Statham, the specialist in English tough guys who was so affecting in "The Bank Job," has more to offer than The Mechanic has the grace to receive. show more

    Steven Rea Philadelphia Inquirer

It'd be nice if Jason Statham and Ben Foster, The Mechanic's mentor/protege duo, could crack a smile. Once. show more

Joe Neumaier New York Daily News

The only bit of machinery that makes the film move is Jason Statham, who's provided the steely saving grace in so many modern action movies. show more

  • 50
    Todd McCarthy The Hollywood Reporter

Like many action stars, Statham is good at cool brooding, but West's frantic style works against this. show more

    Mark Jenkins NPR

The movie is crisp and contemporary enough to inaugurate another franchise for Statham. show more

Mostly, The Mechanic creaks and groans as it goes through the motions, and not even its lavish violence - which includes much smashing of heads and a nasty screwdriver stabbing - is particularly electrifying. show more

    Lou Lumenick New York Post

Short, fast and nasty, The Mechanic is considerably more fun than the rather lethargic original. show more

maybe some young kids liked this formulaic action flick. Extremely predictable with less dramatic ending than the original. Original Bronson movie was OK as a youn kid viewing it, ************ liek such a dated theme today with little originality

This movie is pure junk. Way over done on the violence, very predictable. If you want to see The Mechanic, then rent the much superior version starring Charles Bronson. And what is up with all the movies today. I use to be a weekly moviegoer, now it is hard to find a good movie that is worth seeing. It's like Hollywood has declared war on decent values, every nasty thing that pops into their mind they throw into a movie gratuitously. The Mechanic is another evidence of that.

Seriously - why bother with this new version? Watch the original with Charles Bronson and Jan Michael Vincent.
