Plot Summary
In 1900 in the Bowery, former prize fighter "Slag" McGurk (Wallace Beery) grows disenchanted when his protégé, Johnny Burden (Cameron Mitchell), leaves boxing to join the Salvation Army. Slag inadvertently becomes involved with lost young orphan Nipper (Dean Stockwell), who's searching for his wealthy uncle. Greedily hoping for a reward, Slag helps Nipper, but when Johnny threatens to have the boy taken away, Slag agrees to give up his rowdy ways and join the Salvation Army to retain Nipper.
