I really enjoyed this movie but it definitely wasn't a 'feel good' film. I thought that Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johannsen gave great performances. I guess I must have slept through history class many years ago because I forgot what an awful man the king was. The beheadings made my stomach a little queasy but all in all, I enjoyed this movie because it was based on true events and the story was very compelling.

Loved it! NIce way to find out a little bit of history. I went in thinking it was just a period piece. And came out with a piece of history.

I WAS EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS MOVIE. THE ACTORS WERE GREAT BUT THE STORY WAS SO OFF THE BOOK AND RECORDED HISTORY THAT I JUST KINDA SAT THERE WAITING FOR IT TO CHANGE, BUT IT NEVER DOES. I JUST WANTED TO LEAVE THE THEATER, BUT I PAID THE HEFTY TICKET SO I SAW IT THRU TO THE END. VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED. I WAS REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS MOVIE.

This film was totally spellbinding and captivating. I was totally engaged by the film. Scarlet Johanssen gave a spectacular performance as Mary worthy of an oscar nod for next year. I loved the scenery, costumes and story. It is worth seeing more than once and the film had strong performances by everyone. A great period piece.

This is a good period romance. The costumes are fantastic, that's for sure, and the cast is great, but for some reason, for me, this particular cast has done better work. Scarlett Johannsen is one of my very favorite actors, but this isn't one of her best. Some of the work from the lighting department was incredible.

I dont like to waste my time or money on a flop, YOU WON'T WITH THIS MOVIE. Great acting, great cast It does leave u with a feeling of sorrow for the unintended victims of a family's greedy need to do anything at the expense of their children and happiness to rise to power and wealth. It always comes full circle as reflected in this movie. A sequel will be great as Elizabeth grows and takes what is her's, (bet living out in the country and being a product of overlooked good ole fashioned love during her conception is gonna make her turn out to be a compassionate leader).

I love period movies and this did not disappoint. The story line was absolutely entertaining, a dysfunctional family that proves to be utterly hopeless, sort of like my own. It was sexy, provoking and power mongering in a shameful way...all the stuff that makes movies great. It a spectacle to watch due to the cinematography and the costumes, very believable so much so that it pulls you deep into the screen and you forget that you are in 2008. Yes, it's trashy too but isn't that what we thrive on.? Come on, be truthful. It's a nice getaway movie, just don't take your teenage daughters.

This movie was great!! I went to see it with some of my friends and was amazed when I saw it. I probably wouldn't see it again since I was practically weeping at the end, but I would still recommend it to everybody.

After reading the book, I was excited to learn that it would be made into a movie. However, this adaptation, if I can even call it that, is way off. The plot is a mish mash of not so interesting parts of the book, gliding over important plot lines, and barely having a rhythm at all. Natalie was great, with what little she had to work with. Despite these major departures from the book--- above all, the movie was just plain boring. I would advise anyone to skip this.
