"The Reader" is one of the most haunting films I've ever seen. Kate Winslet is breathtaking in this role; David Kross who plays the younger Michael is amazing; Ralph Fiennes as adult Michael is masterful. The story was so engrossing that I never once looked at the time--I was completely wrapped up in the performances. It will stay with you long after you leave the theatre.

Definately thought provoking. A must see. Leaves you thinking. It more than a love story. Demonstrates how one's past truly effects one's futures. Cinematography is outstanding. Historical content factual. Kate Winslow was outstanding. Her character was believable. Her best work yet. Kate should win an oscar for this performance! Increadilble writing and acting. The director was phenomanal. The was not a sound in the theater throughout the movie. We were all swept up into this story.

Perhaps some of the reviewers should have read the book, if that would be possible for them. This was an intelligent, adult movie that was more than a "love story". History has a way of impacting and changing people's lives as this film so very well demonstrates. I agree with the previous writer, this is an Academy Award Winner.

After an hour of sex, nudity and lovemaking, you just want to scream, "OK, we get the point, a 15 year old is having a torrid love affair with a 30-something." Yikes. It was torturously slow and fragmented. And, in the end, an appeal for literacy! Save your money.

I am very glad I gave this movie a chance. It starts off very strong and changes directions half way through but its still a great movie. Very fine acting and interesting story. Definitely worth the ticket price, go see it.

I read the book just prior to seeing the movie. Very intense and emotionally devastating. The actors were wonderful and the storyline kept pretty close to the book. Definitely thought-provoking and a must see. Yes, Kate deserves an Oscar for her performance. She was truly convincing as someone who had to shut down emotionally because of her past in order to survive her future.

The movie switch directions completely halfway during the movie. The plot was fuzzy.

As a romance, it is well done and intensely performed. As a story of German guilt about the Holocaust, it smacks of hypocricy. terry1718
